Local governments don’t usually build housing, however, they do create the rules that shape where housing can be built, what the housing looks like, and can influence how much the housing costs. Through the update to the Housing Chapter of the City's Comprehensive Plan, the is planning for how to accommodate and meet the housing needs of current and future Federal Way residents. This includes addressing the shortage and lack of variety of housing that exists today. In particular, the City is working to amend how housing is regulated to increase housing choice through Middle Housing.
