Federal Way leads South King County as a livable, vibrant and well-connected community. A reimaged City Center and defined Downtown is the heart of the city and a source of pride. The natural environment thrives; businesses prosper; abundant housing options meet diverse needs; the community is socially engaged and feels a sense of belonging; and, getting around is convenient and safe. The community embraces its commitment to unlocking its untapped potential.

Redevelop Downtown
Create an engaged and safe downtown identity to promote local business, shops, restaurants. A lot of ideas, like the Arts Center, are underused. Create a place where people want to bring big and small companies to the city.

Copy Emeryville, CA
This city is what we should copy focusing on walking, biking, traffic calming, transit, safety, climate change, less car centric. The mayor of Emeryville is amazing. Wish we had or cared enough to follow a similar path. Make it an ordinance to have bike parking at all new business in the city! We're still widening roads for more traffic!

Create a large pedestrian-friendly SuperBlock...
...in the area of Town Square Park and the new Sound Transit Station. That would be from Pete von Reichbauer Way S to the west, to 23rd Ave S to the east; and from S 320th St to the south, up to S 316th St to the North. Have all of the vehicle traffic only enter and exit from around the perimeter of this new SuperBlock. 21st Ave S street would be buses only and 5 MPH, if Metro refuses to also use the perimeter access. This entire walkable SuperBlock would be designed and optimized for pedestrian use, with limited perimeter access for vehicles. Watch the following YouTube video. Have an area set aside for food trucks and pop ups. Make it a place that both vendors and people want to visit.
Create a space where people can display their creative talents in the form of food and crafts. Some sort of covered area for folks to sit and eat outside year round. Make it so that vendors are vying for the opportunity to park their food truck or set up their pop up experience!

Climate change
Make the City safer for biking / walking, slow cars down to improve safety, better transit, add some protected buffered bike lanes, better traffic calming for residential, street side rain gardens. Cars make noise pollution as well as tail pipe emissions as well as killing or injuring pedestrians or cyclist. Climate change is a major threat to us all, but no one really cares about cycling or walking.

Federal Way: A beautiful city with things to do and places to work
The City of Federal Way should be a place that: 1. Provides a peaceful environment for families to grow and older folks to retire 2. Inspires children and teenagers to stay enrolled at their local schools 3. Establishes clear laws about what is required of its citizens (keeping the streets clean, following the rules of the road, etc.) 4. Has fun places to go (parks, restaurants, shopping centers, etc.) 5. Provides employment for both entry-level workers and those seeking higher wages

Date night at the Commons
The Commons should turn to place where people want to do a date night, take kids to on rainy days and general place the hang out. Add lazer tag, arcade, restaurants, breweries, mini golf, etc. Washington is a rainy place and the commons is the center of this city which should be a gathering place :)

Festivals and museums
Federal Way is continuing to grow. I feel that there needs to be more activities that I think people would enjoy. It would be great to see festivals that celebrate different things such as music festival, movie festival, cultural festivals and etc. Other cities around the Puget Sound and country have festivals that people come to celebrate and have fun. I also think that Federal Way needs a museum starting with the history of Federal way and having different culture backgrounds display.

A welcoming city with clean streets, green spaces, a lot of different types of shops and attractions, and a lot of jobs.
The city has a university and has attracted individuals from all over the world. There are a variety of food options, from chains to locally owned places, and there is an easy to use bus system for residents and visitors. There are also crosswalks for pedestrians downtown as well as in residential areas. The city is known for hosting music events such as concerts, plays, and musicals. It also attracts a larger audience by holding conventions and other similar large events. The school district has a well known reputation for being a good place for youth to learn and grow. Learning is strict, and students learn important life skills as well as the normal subjects that will help them in their future careers. Teachers teach relevant subjects and work with the community to see what they feel kids should be learning. This feedback ensures that there is communication between parents and students. There are police officers on site to make sure everyone feels safe. The city has different housing options but still maintains its traditional single-family housing for those who want it. The library system has been maintained, and remains a great resource for the residents. Residents help one another and by doing so, have created a strong bond and sense of belonging in the community. In all, Federal Way is not a perfect place, but it is a place that is striving to be better and become a good example to other cities and places.

Update 2024 is what we are calling the Periodic Update to the City of Federal Way's Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is the city’s map for the future and provides the goals, objectives, policies, actions, and standards that are intended to guide the day-to-day decisions of elected officials and staff for the next two decades.
