Federal Way leads South King County as a livable, vibrant and well-connected community. A reimaged City Center and defined Downtown is the heart of the city and a source of pride. The natural environment thrives; businesses prosper; abundant housing options meet diverse needs; the community is socially engaged and feels a sense of belonging; and, getting around is convenient and safe. The community embraces its commitment to unlocking its untapped potential.

Through the direction of the City Council and support from the Federal Way community, adding a chapter to the City of Federal Way’s Comprehensive Plan to cover Arts, Culture, and Historic Preservation was considered essential for shaping the future of Federal Way. The land is a part of who we are as a community, bridging the past, present, and future. Touching on the social and physical environments, this Chapter identifies areas for attention, programming, and investment to learn from and enhance the way people experience their time in Federal Way, from first time visitors, to longtime residents. This Chapter provides a framework to identify opportunities and unleash the untapped potential that advancing planning for the arts, culture, and historic preservation have in building community identity.

Update 2024 is what we are calling the Periodic Update to the City of Federal Way's Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is the city’s map for the future and provides the goals, objectives, policies, actions, and standards that are intended to guide the day-to-day decisions of elected officials and staff for the next two decades.
